Phoenix Heart

Love that scares,
A bond we barely bear.
Thinner than water,
Thicker than a strand of hair.

Lies we spare,
Wars declared.
Silence louder,
Than every word we dared.

Blood we share,
I'd shed it for anyone but you.
For random strangers,
I'd put myself in danger—
Just to escape the memory of you.

I freeze my emotions,
Leave them to happen.
Yet carry their weight,
Packed in my baggage.

I seek closure,
In the fire that burns me.
I love the slight warmth,
Before it starts to hurt me.

I'll light a match,
Turn myself to ash,
Made of dead cells and starglass.
I'll keep going, just as I have all along—
And you'll hear it in my Phoenix Heart.
