SAMARENDRANATH MAHAPATRA
Mr. Samarendranath Mahapatra is a well-known Odia Poet and writer who has been writing since 1980. His poems have been published in all the leading Odia magazines and broadcast in All India Radio, Cuttack and telecast in Bhubaneswar Doordarshan. To date he has eight collections of poems: 1. Mauna Abhisar,2. Uttirna Abatirna,3. Eka Eka Bikramarka,4. Kalikala,5. Sabda Samagra,6. Nayaka,7. Kabita Sarajibana and 8. Bisanna Nadeera Teere. He is also very prominent in Children's Literature. To date he has written six books for Children.3 story books- 1. Ek Dui Tin,2. Agadam Bagadam,3. Anabana Gapa, and 3 poem collections for children- 1. Janama Mati Dake,2. Nali Gulu Gulu Sadhaba Bohu and 3. Maja Maja Kabita. He has also edited compilations such as- 1. Beparua Badshah,2. Sahityara Sambhabana,3. Prasanga Aprasanga and some others. He is the founding editor of JHARKA, a literary periodical in Odia. As a writer he has received several awards including the State Youth Award for Poetry (1996-97) , Travel Grant awarded by Sahitya Akademi (2000-2001) , Prajatantra Bisuva Milan Award (1983) , Sanskruti Mitra Award (2012) , Suresh Balabantarao Culture Award and many more. He is recognised as a film critic and attended several film festivals including IFFIs. Some of his poems have been translated into English and Hindi which are published in 'Indian Literature', 'The Telegraph' and 'Samakalin Bharatiya Sahitya'. He has also written Lyrics for some Odia Films and music albums. Some of his books on film and culture are on the verge of release. He is now studying on Tribal Culture-Music and Songs. So Jhumar songs are now under his keen study. Now he is the recipient of Senior Fellowship, given by Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India.
