The title puts a very interesting spin on this almost methodical admonition for something like reasonable charitable fair play. As if patriotism was tied even into sports. Indeed from your discussion it seems it might also be argued that true patriotism would be illustrating true sportsmanship in fair play not only on the playing field but also in the stands.
