16. Too Little
"It was too little, not enough to sate
The hunger of the famished guest,
Who looked at them longingly;
The wife gave her share.
"So did the son and his wife.
Satisfied, the guest smiled;
Another moment, in his place
There stood Lord Dharmadeva.
"The Lord blessed the Brahmana;
Quothe He, ‘I knew you were righteous
And has earned a place among Gods,
I just wished to be sure about others.
"‘Take from me, it is not the quantity
Of the sacrifices you make that matters,
But the care and love in the sacrifices,
Given your circumstances.
"‘Now you shall lead a life of plenty
And when time comes, all of you
Will reach the heavens, it is my word.'
Saying this He disappeared.
Lord Dharmadeva: Like the plethora of Gods in the Ancient Greek faith, the Indian scriptures are also resplendent with Gods. Lord Dharmadeva is The God of Righteousness
