Yudhishthira's Ashwamedham 06 - The Treasure Poem by Unnikrishnan Sivasankara Menon

Krishna now suggested that
It was time Yudhishthira conducted
Ashwamedha Yajnam holy
That'll cleanse him of all sins.

The grievous sins he had earned
Fighting a war against his siblings
And causing to kill millions
Will now be washed away.

'Ashwamedham lasts a year, nearly
And Involves huge expenses.
I can't tax my people who are just
coming out of the perils of the war.'

Bhagawan Ved Vyasa said,
'Ages ago Emperor Maruththa
Ruled over the entire Bharatvarsh
Very righteous, rich and famous.


'No sooner than he ascended the throne
He began to perform a yagam
Needing lot of money for the purpose
He worshipped Lord Siva with the request

'Lord granted him the boon well-deserved
Presented him with an entire hill of gold
Marutta used just a little of the wealth
The entire balance is there for us to use.

'Let us get what we need of the treasure
From where it is in the Himalayas
We shall not tax the people for the yagam
But, entire world should draw its benefit.'

When Lord Krishna supported this,
Yudhishthira did think no more.
