You've Always Been 'enough' Poem by Rachel Davis

You've Always Been 'enough'

Rating: 5.0

I'll admit I've been disgusted,
I have looked at you like dirt,
I have said that you are ugly,
Whilst you were feeling hurt.

When you have made mistakes,
I have scathed you and been cruel,
You would often beg for mercy,
Whilst the fire I would fuel.

You tried to stand up proud,
I jumped in to pull you back,
You thought you may be worth it?
You must be smoking crack.

You have often cried at night,
I used to revel in your pain,
I thought that you deserved it,
Your energy I would drain.

You used to try to talk to me,
I would block you out,
Distractions always thrown at you,
It made you scream and shout.

I know it made you angry,
You felt you were alone,
This made you turn to food,
You put on another stone…

You used to keep busy,
Always helping others,
If you spent some time on yourself,
You would be showing different colours.

I wouldn't let you though,
I would beat you to a pulp,
Often you were black and blue,
When afraid, I heard you gulp.

Now I see things differently,
I now know I was wrong,
I no longer want to harm you,
Let's stand together and be strong.

I can hear when you talk to me,
And now I choose to listen,
I like it when you get excited,
When your eyes start to glisten.

I want to tell you I am sorry,
For you, I made things tough,
It is time to take back all of that,
As you have always been enough.

I have lots of love to give you,
Do you think you can forgive?
Never stop believing you can,
As you have a life to live!
