D.M. Thomas is the translator. " hasten to the heights" sounds very UN-russian. Too western, too baroque for A.A. I have a friend who is providing me with a more true translation for that bottom stanza.
What a nice ending, to remain with the lover you raised the heights great..0 And hasten to the heights that I have longed for, Leaving my shadow still to be with you.
This is from 'Moscow Trefoil', I think...I've always loved the power in Akhmatova's poems. They make me wish I could read Russian.
