You Were Not There Poem by Chukwuebuka Adebayo

You Were Not There

Where were you the day,
That beauty was buried?
And my eyes for beauty faded
You were not there!
You were too old but she was young
When riches was dumped, To fill up the hole of dust?
And l came to know everything is vanity.
Where were you?
You were not there!
You were wanting but he had everything
You are right but the world is wrong
That day I had started dying too.

On that day, crying wasn't a shame
And sympathy was as but stageplay
Who were you at the occasion
When the door to their courts was opened
When they were let down in
The music slowly stopped---
And the crowds went all away?
You were not there
At the party of those books unread
The sweet music unheard
The potentials unrealized
And the roads not taken
Oh.Where were you?
