You Surely Will Poem by priscah Mutswenje

You Surely Will

You want to fly and sail like superman
You want to fight without losing like batman
You want to hide never to be seen like Spiderman
So many aspirations, boy, so many little man

You want to be a beast that will rule over everyone
Or that lion that roars in the jungle to anyone
Or the clever ananze that tricks the fly in the day
Or a tricky hare that cheats the lion and buffalo to pay
For their silly chanced moments

I know how you feel when the queen walks to the palace
I know how you feel when the adventure man wrecks the place
And is untraceable by many who long for him to trace
And they end up trapped

That is possible though in our world
Only a few adjustments are bold
Read and read, write and write as told
Play and listen, be truthful to the old

You will be a batman
You will be a superman
You will be the spiderman
As a pilot or engineer, or a doctor
Or a teacher, and an architect
You surely will...
