You Matter Poem by Ray Anyasi

You Matter

I have quite a journey with words.
I have been tortured with words.
I have been saved by words.
I have a crush on words.
I can't tell her of my feelings yet,
Because I don't have the words.
I have been rescued by words from tight corners.
I would tell you how indepted to words I am,
but words fail me.

Words matter.
Words are the compost of the soul. The chariots of our thoughts across primitive shunts.
Words matter because silence is golden.
Silence is golden because then does the soul speak words to itself.
Words it has refused to waste abroad.
Because word is the lifeblood of soul.
Silence is the mind bathing in its own nourishment.
In selfishness for its preservation and sanity.

The sword may be mighty but words go farther.
Without words, the deeds of the powerful are unknown.
What is, is what is because of words.
The grass is green because we say it is.
The sky is blue because that is our word for it.
Without the words blue and green, what will the grass and sky be?
They will have to settle for whatever other words we lend to them.
Because words matter.

If you believe it,
Before the heavens and earth was born,
a certain someone said, let there be light and the big bang happened.
Again they said, let us make man,
and a chimp became Adam.
The chimp's wife became Eve because words matter.
Light may travel faster than words but only words can tell us what the light is showing us.
And until we can tell an experience in words, our experience remains incomplete.
Words make stories and stories are the summation of our existence.
Words matter.

If you use words, be bold.
If you trade in words, be proud.
And if you happen to be a master of words, be humble.
Be humble because humility is the last gate on the road to divinity.
Walk that road with words.
Because words matter.
And if words matter, poets matter.
You, matter.
