You Disappointed Me Poem by Samuel Segun Toluwalase

You Disappointed Me

He waited up all night
All through on the hospital metal seats

With sick smells of hospital corridors
Watching as physicians paraded in white apparels

His lips whispering endless prayers
His knees shivering from the freezing air

His heart heavy with worry
And his body stinks of stales pressured sweat

His scalp itched for he had washed his head in basins countless times
His ears attentive to the consistent beep from your room

And here he will remain till he takes you home
At least he thought

But the beep stopped
And men in apparels raced to your room
And in minutes, they all walked out in dragging feet
Shaking heads and warm whispers

And still the first tap remained unreal
He rose to see his queen
Her eye lids closed in beauty and and body lay calm in peace

For she had disappointed Him
She had ended another life too
And has left him miserable
And though a smile remained on her chin
His remaining days will be in endless frown

You disappointed me
He whispered

You Disappointed Me
