You Can Tell Right Away Poem by Grant House

You Can Tell Right Away

If you put on a t-shirt to sleep in
In the dark with all the lights out
You can tell right away
If it's on backwards
It's uncomfortable
Without thinking
You pull your arms out
Spin it around
Only then can you lie down
Pull up the covers
And fall dreamily asleep
Intuition is like that
You sense something
Even before it comes into view
Integrity is the same like that too
When it's right you know it
If it's wrong
Even when all the light is gone
Tossed in a starless storm
You struggle to return to an even keel
More and more I feel
That our world is in a dark place
With its t-shirt on backwards
I know you have felt it even before hearing these words
How about we pull our arms out
And spin it around
Quietly without a sound
Let's bring peace and calm so children
All the world around
Their well being our responsibility to keep
Can pull up their covers in safety
And fall dreamily asleep
