I stopped right at the scene of tragedy.
She stood, head bowed, long neck, wings drooping,
and motionless until she saw my face.
Damn, it was obvious, he had been truly slaughtered,

Geese pair for life and they do mourn the loss of a mate as other species will mourn the loss of their young ones. And we humans think animals don't feel anything. There is a lot of goose personality in this poem and plenty of insight I love animals too.

Wow! This is an amzing poem. i love the way you place the story and the effect you create. its also very emotive - which is usually the case in poetry, but this emotion is rarely real or sincere. i love it. Yolanda is a celebrity!

Herbert...the is a grand, big canvas poem. The pacing of the narrative is perfect; I wanted to keep reading, which is not the usual case with most poems, and the ending was the end, not too soon and not too late. Really a nice, moving poem. I can see why you are fond of it yourself. Gets a ten+.

Don't you know Jefferson that Herbert has more compassion for the animal kingdom than the human race. Of course animals cannot communicate their disapproval...sort of like Saywell. peck

Herbicide, if this is your best, I feel sorry for you and your tiny talent. The poem's stiff and often stupid. I can't believe you feel you have the right to evaluate anyone's poems. JC

Herbert as I write this message I have a box of tissues beside me. I am a great animal lover, the tears just kept coming. I live in the heart of the countryside and we see many a road kill. This is one of the best poems that I have ever read.
