Part 3. You know pretty well that the Women of Kerala wore no sarees and blouses in the 19th century (life time of the painter.) . They used to wear Mundus.
Part 2 But, almost all his paintings of women are modelled on his wife, who was a Maharashtrian noble lady. Please look at this very painting of Damayanti. Her features and her dressing (in a Maharashtrian style saree draped in Maharashtrian style) are typically Maharashtrian. Contd

I have almost forgotten the tale of Nala and Damyanti. Thank you for reminding. I need to refresh my memory of this story by reading it again.
