Woke Poem by Randy McClave

Woke

To those in the culture of the word, "woke"
It now becomes and remains just a Joke,
People who now use, 'woke' as a pejorative
Better, buy themselves a dictionary and read it's narrative.
But, they would rather redefine it than to solve it
With a meaning they had already knit,
Woke doesn't means they are self-absorbed, insensitive, cruel
Or petty, vindictive and dull-witted, as a fool.
Woke was first recorded in about the year nine hundred
Opposite of waking up from what I and some read,
Then in the 1960s it was popularized by the civil rights movement
When they used the new word for a revolution.
The new meaning of the word is again being used
Now we are once again being duped and also confused,
Groups are now making up and using a new meaning
And their beliefs and thoughts are just intervening.
The true meaning of woke you must remember and keep
Woke is to wake up or to rouse from sleep,
And though this meaning unto many isn't that scary
Awaken means, "not sleeping" according to the dictionary.
