Without Any Offence Poem by Phillip Nine Mafunga

Without Any Offence

I would rather read ‘bout the wind
Insofar as nothing remains after all that grind
Still, I love reading bu' not in the wind
For all tha' gust n' whistling'd blow my mind

I would really love to count the stripes on the zebra
Leave my ideas bare n' lasting like algebra
Maybe the next generation ‘d be as alert as the cobra
Then I'd live long in their minds like the colourful Ofala festival of Anambra

I would love to just sit n' think ‘bout thoughts
And take long mental walks for sports
Maybe walk into those crevices of human unknowns spots
Well, thinking isn't easy in itself, unless you joint the dots

I wish I could just understand what makes the human race, race
And maybe make the whole idea peaceable in this space
For philosophy n' politics can't get all of us on the floor to dance
But love, faith n' hope remain for us all without any offence
