Such a heart-wrenching poem that it brought tears to my eyes. And anger towards God for making children so suffer with debilitating cancer. I've been reading THE EMMANUEL BOOKS which attempt to explain such justification. Some of that anger is slowly melting away. And as I visualize your daughter swimming with the dolphins, I smile at God and thank Him for the healing and the joy.

So yes I asked my child What she wanted to do And she said she'd like to swim with dolphins Before her life is through.

Thus we can note our talented poet Susan how she would see from the eyes of children because her heart is pure like the heart of an innocent child, she cares about the problems of young and old and makes it a vital topic for her poems...10 and to my favorite list, well done and all the best

The wonders of this world and the terrible tragedy of cancer for a child. A heartfelt and soothing poem about the beauty of this world and the darkness of the beast of cancer. A beautifully crafted and tender poem!

Hazel, my friend, I love it when you comment in my poetry. I swear your comments are more poetic than my poem- I think that is because your comments come from a very kind and sensitive heart. Thank you

Part - 2 But the seventh stanza expresses sadness, Here we find heart rending depiction. It may be quoted.... She said she'd like to play Instead of lay in the hospital all day She said she would like to dance in a ballet And never again live the color gray. It is really very painful matter that she is on hospital bed to meet the death. It is a gorgeous poem on life and death intensively depicted.

Part - 1 The beginning of the poem is so interesting. Expression here is so touching. Let me cite the beginning lines... Has anyone asked the child What she'd like to do? Would she like to swim with dolphins Before her life is through?

I have tried several times to write replies to all of your wonderful comments but I can only type a few words before the site goes flipping to another poem and then I have to find this poem all over again

Sorry to say again that I am forced to write a comment off site and paste it here on this poem which I will probably have to track down with my marvelous tracking abilities and steadfast determination not to be bested by PH or computer problems.

Wonderful words of wisdom as to how to help children who have been sentenced to die. Such a significant submission on a challenging subject that help parents and all involved in rabid reality of a child's demise.

God blessed us- -she lived and she still lives today- the child has health issues but she doesn't let them stop her! Thank you for your kind words, my friend.

God be praised that she lives. Once there is life there is hope. May God continue to give her life and more abundant life!

God bless the child who is a cancer patient, he can only wish and dream to pass a normal life like other children. I could never understand if it's a planned world and a planned life why the innocent children, free of any sin, whatever it may be, suffer from such diseases It's a touching poem written in a very impressive style..

My belief is that God made us a beautiful and entirely healthy place to live. Mankind messed that up with their sins and with their neglect and downright attack on the earth. God never gave us this ruined place to live, we did. That has been what has kept me upright during cancer attack after attack on my family. Thank you for reading and being touched by this poem.

It must be the most heart-rending thing a parent can ever decide- -the child begs to be allowed to die...begs... and the parent says the chemo will continue because there is a chance for the child to live. Fortunately in this case, the girl survived and is still alive [and quite sassy] today!

interesting to read this one now, susan. i have a friend who's been battling cancer—and losing from what i can see. but he's already eighty or near eighty. but in a child... the dolphin refrain gets my attention. i have a poem dolphin dream which i had in a period of my life when i was dealing with depression. it was one of those gifts that lifted me. hoping this finds you well in all ways, glen

all diseases are much more poignant when they strike children no matter where they live in this world. Dolphins- -most children are attracted to dolphins as are 80% of adults. Thank you for the good wishes, Glen. May God bless you and keep you.

She said she'd like to play Instead of lay in the hospital all day She said she would like to dance in a ballet And never again live the color gray... heart melting lines. The desires of an innocent child who fights against cancer in a hospital's bed should be well realised by the parents. Children are innocents and they are out of violence. Their immature death is a great plight. A poignant write with a empathetic heart.

It is pure heartache to see a child battling cancer, not wanting to be throwing up all the time, not wanting to ache and hurt all over their body, not wanting to lay there with tubes running their lives. It must tear a heart out of the chest to hear a child BEG to be allowed to die, BEG a parent to not let them hurt her anymore. I suspect more people in PH have had family members battling cancer than haven't and that too is heartbreaking. Thank you for reading, my friend.

I felt a heartbreaking sadness reading your poem. No words can describe or lessen the suffering of children and those who love them. Thank you for this tender write.10+++++

Thank you, Simone, for your quiet response to this poem. It is the response of loving adults everywhere to the horrid sight of a child fighting for her life. This child made it- it's been five years cancer-free for her. If only all Mother's children could win this fight.
