That wish you express to start over is something that links you to the mass of human beings. There is something comforting in knowing what you desire human beings generally desire. It lifts us out of two big personal problems of the modern age: loneliness and alienation. My gut feeling is that given the still short span of human life, less than 100 years and the later half of what duration we are given spent in decline or infirmity, makes finding a solution to these two problems virtually impossible. Starting over with a clean slate but the knowledge of life we did not have the first time around would be a supreme blessing. But it's wishful thinking. So you either accept your life as a given, and use your imagination to find its symbolic patterns of achievement, OR you spend your latter years bitter. I'm the last person to preach, and shouldn't be trusted if I do (sic) . I find your poem to be an inspiring example of just how you could go about identifying the symbolic patterns that brought coherence to your life.
