Winter Poem by Phillip Nine Mafunga

Winter

I don't like winters
Maybe the idea of winter, I Like
Just the winter in the storybooks sounds good
I hate the freezing winter nights
The feel of having to wake up early on a chilly morning
Taking a bath is a huge challenge
But basking in the winter sun is most fulfilling and soothing
Not when there's rolling clouds in the skies though!

I don't like winters
Especially the lonely freezing nights
When I think of the homeless, I go numb all over
For the rich and resourced, winters are wonderful by the fireside
Warm clothes, warm blankets, and a comfy bed, just a pipe dream for the poor
Winter nights are long and unending on an empty stomach
Spare a thought for the elderly; spare a thought for the homeless this winter
I don't like winters at all; those in the Equator will not understand obviously!
