Wild Flowers/02: Prisoner Poem by Asit Kumar Sanyal

Wild Flowers/02: Prisoner

Look at this prisoner
he is under punishment
in cellular jail
rotating an oil-machine
like a bull
weak or strong
he was constrained to grind
a fixed amount of oil
every day
with no space to rest
lashes on back and chest
and continuous shouts
move fast, move fast
his guilt was
he wanted to drive away British
from this soil
and to free India.
