Why Won't They Let Me Poem by Lindy Jean Kleinhans

Why Won't They Let Me

By LJK

Why won't they let me?
Why can't they see
This image of wonder
I hid since age 3

Why won't they let me
Why can't they find
My beautiful heart space
and all left behind

Why won't they let me-
and peacefully go
when I never asked for
this place that I know

Why won't they let me
be happy and content
for all that seem worthy
and all the time spent

Why won't they let me
live blissful and at peace
a little part of heaven
is all that I seize

Why won't they let me-
and leave me alone
A bothersome future
is all that I've known

Maybe I was too forgiving
Maybe I was weak
But life is unforgiving
of my precious time, I speak

This is my life, this is my choice
Let me make it so I can rejoice
this is my time, and this is my future
please let me have it, and be my own user

Mistakes I will make, it's meant to be so
And this is how my strength will just grow
So let me learn, and learn in peace
Without your hands around my neck like a leash
