Why Otherwise Poem by Francis Duggan

Why Otherwise

None of us truly independent why otherwise pretend
A truly lost person is the one without a friend
The one of a friend who does not feel in need
On life's tougher moments is a sad one indeed
When life's lady luck she is not on your side
You need one to trust on whom you can confide
Someone who for you compassion will show
From the bond of trust friendship always does grow
When you are in trouble you know who your friends are seems true to say
At such a time your friend from you will not shy away
We all do need a friend in our life or two
And this also applies to me and to you
With none to help to lift their spirits when they are feeling down
The friendless they are the sad sacks of the town.
