Why Do You Keep Telling Me Poem by Francis Duggan

Why Do You Keep Telling Me

Why do you keep telling me of how marvellousthey are
Of how up the material success ladder they have climbed far
Since you know they are not the sort of people that I do admire
And to be like them in any way I feel no desire

Why should I admire the multi millionaire and billionaire
When for the Earth that supplies us with our every need they do not seem to care
The Earth that does feed us suffers due to their greed
Of more environmentally aware people the World is in need

Sad to say greedy people are no longer rare
But so few of them seem to realize that the Earth is for us to live in and with other life forms to share
Due to the destruction of natural habitat for wildlife it seems sad to say
That more species are becoming extinct every day

Since I do not admire most of the super wealthy to you I have made clear
Why do you keep telling me of what I do not wish to hear
Of how on the ladder of material success how they have climbed far
Those you look up to does tell of the sort of person you are.
