Who She Truly Was Poem by Randy McClave

Who She Truly Was

I gave her a life jacket to get on my boat with me
And I bought her a passport to travel the country,
But, now she sails soap in the bathtub and not the sea
She also travels the nearby roads, with the same company.
I truly thought that my journeys would be her and I
Together on a boat on the water, or in a plane in the sky,
I now travel all alone and I still wonder why
Was I being used, or was she just a lie.
I bought her new clothes so she and I could go out
I took her to the finest restaurants without a single doubt,
Her on my arm I wanted to proudly show off and shout
Now, I wish that I had taken a different route.
I wanted to take her to the castles of mysterious Scotland
In Tokyo I wanted to shop with her while holding her hand,
I wanted to see her footprints in the Spanish sand
And on the beaches of Fiji, I wanted to see her skin tanned.
I wanted to proudly show her the whole wide world abuzz
I wanted to show her adventures with wonderment and love,
Everything that I wanted to show her was just because;
But, then she showed me herself, and who she truly was.
