Whitby Ware Poem by Stephen Harris

Whitby Ware

Beware when walking Whitby town
the gothic streets and cobbled square
for vampire bats and black dogs prowl
while Dracula lies lurking there

If darkness falls when all alone
with mists and Mary's blood red stare
collect yourself and hurry home
don't venture near that abbey stair

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
On Dracula and Whitby where he landed in a storm. Whitby still holds a magical mystique to this day. 'Mary's blood red stare' is in reference to St Mary's church at the top of the abbey steps and who's windows go blood red at sunset.
