Whether It's This Or Whether It's That! Poem by Denis Martindale

Whether It's This Or Whether It's That!

Whether it's romance or rejection, the highlight or the sorrow,
There's one choice or no selection that I must face tomorrow.
Today, to fall in love so fast, or out of love once more,
I kept it going to the last, as that's what love lives for.
But when the sorrow starts to grind, and tags along a while,
I lose my trust in all Mankind, for sadness has no smile.

But faith abides within my heart, and says, I'll love again,
Whether now, I stand apart, not knowing where or when.
But when she comes, blonde or brunette, her eyes green, brown or blue,
I'll cast away my past regret, just as all lovers do.
And I will flirt and compliment, and make her laugh with glee,
And tell her she was Heaven-sent, to love and rescue me.

Then loneliness will melt and die, though once it chilled each bone,
And all my hopes will rise and fly, if she loves me alone.
And maybe this time love runs smooth, without a doubt in sight,
And only then will I improve, to love with all my might.
And whether she's known as Emma! Or April, May or June!
We'll have only one dilemma! Where to go on Honeymoon!
