When You Slipped Away Poem by Gifty Otabil

When You Slipped Away

Rating: 5.0

What happened to us?
How did we fall apart?
I gave you my soul,
You ran off with my heart.

I was so crazy, so deeply in love,
Then you vanished like stars from the sky above.
You left for a land, far out of view,
To wander, to search, to find a new you.

I struggled for months, tried to forget,
Buried our memories with quiet regret.
But I miss the touch of your tender lips,
Still dream of your hands and your soft fingertips.

The happiest time, I'll never outgrow
Was meeting you at that party, aglow.
It was love at first sight, a magical start,
You fed me and whispered straight into my heart.

You made me laugh, you made me shine,
Everything about that night felt divine.
We shared your phone, typed what we meant,
The music was loud, but the moment was spent

Leaning so close, shoulder to shoulder,
As the night grew deeper and the air got colder.
Your eyes met mine, you fed me a bite,
A kiss soon followed—it just felt right.

We kissed so long, lost in that trance,
By the time we pulled back, we'd missed the last dance.
Even now, when I think it through,
I get chills remembering that night with you.

It was the start of something so rare,
A bond, a flame, a love we'd share.
I gave you my all with an open embrace,
But you slipped away, leaving barely a trace.

No word from you, not even a sign,
And I kept pretending that I was fine.
I thought I had healed, I thought I was through
Until we spoke, and it all came anew.

Now every feeling is rushing back fast,
Like a ghost from the sweetest part of my past.
I guess I never stopped loving you…
But I can't say it—not without a clue

Of how you feel or what you'd do.
So I'll just leave this here, raw and true.
If you ever read this, maybe you'll see
How much you once meant, and still mean to me.

I miss you, Duke.
