When We First Met Poem by Raj Dronamraju

When We First Met

When we first met
One wanted to refine the other
In this case, you were Professor Higgins and I was the ill-mannered ruffian
This was named Pig-malion and I oinked all the way to further happiness

When we first met
We were two spirits in a volcano
Trapped in an unstable heaven where gods come apart at the slightest pressure
We knew were in a position to take advantage when the whole place finally blew

When we first met
I was in an uncomfortable position
I gestured for change but it took its time in arriving
The worthiness of the wait and the value of patience

Isolation of the second we met
Slow motion for the historically inept
Cut the picture out of the frame
Today, we study that photograph like it's a religious text
How can you smile like that? I know very well how you can smile like that!
