When The Big Hand Pounces On You Poem by Sarah Mkhonza

When The Big Hand Pounces On You

It happens to many,
this pouncing upon,
done by the big hand.
Enclosing on you and
stifling you into a mute.

Wiggle yourself out and
know it is just a big hand,
made of clay like yours.
Hard at times, but we
were born to be pounced
upon by the big hand.

Live knowing time
and time again,
it will happen in a way
it happened to some.

It is a silencing that
asks you to find a
voice with which to
speak out. Always look
for the hole in between
the fingers. A little
light shines there.

The light calls you
to open up and see
you are the light and
not the darkness that
the big hand creates.

Some heads are bigger,
as some hands are bigger.
And as you still linger,
in this sunshine the
darkness threatens.
Keep looking at the light.
