When Love Is Dead Poem by Mamta Agarwal

When Love Is Dead

Rating: 5.0

When love is dead
You move to separate beds.
You try to be polite
And ignore every slight.

When love is dead
You just nod your head,
Without paying attention
To what your partner mentions.

When love is dead
Although you share bread,
And live under the same roof
You do your best to remain aloof.

When love is dead
it becomes easy to shed,
any kind of pretence
as now it makes no sense.

When love is dead
A lot is left unsaid,
Why doesn’t any one make
A complete break?

Maybe like worn out shoes
You are too lazy to break the status quo.

Very good piece. But I disagree with the contents.Family life is a very normal routine life. It is just like a clock. Tick tick or click click. You may feel bore or tired. But you can not escape.Family life is a bundle of adjustment and compromise. Thanks Mamta

Fear of the unknown...fear of repeating your same fate all over again...fear of being the one that finally says 'it's over'....fear of how your spouse might react...'for the children'...hoping that things will change...etc, etc... The reasons that people stay in dead marriages are many... Nicely written! Hugs, Dee
