The bittersweet lived on and love died giving a thought provoking thrill. But still love grows with love, trust and peace. This is very well realized by many people. This is an excellent poem very well penned...10

i have an idea of what bittersweet means (especially after reading online definitions) , but i wish Adeline would tell me what she is referring to exactly. what are the sweet AND the bitter thoughts, feelings, objects, experiences or whatever that were left after the love was gone for the speaker. and if there truly was something sweet after love was gone, why did it seem that the bitter prevailed? any takers on the above question? personally i don't care much for love poems. i also see that one commenter doesn't like when other poets ask him to read poems and give reviews. at the risk of bothering him or anybody else (i don't mind the risk; what could he do to hurt me anyway? ? ?) i am now leaving the titles of four poems i have on poemhunter which deal with love. I Don't Care Much For Love Poems Soft Are You Really Better Without Me? Don't lose Heart After Losing A Love i've had four wives and at least two girlfriends whom i loved.....at least for a while. 3 divorces later i may know something about love and losing it.....maybe. my 5th anniversary with fourth wife is fast approaching.

Yes this is so true and some can't understand that when love dies it goes away never to return again.Only sorrow and regret remain.Very good poem and so true.

A very true poem, pride is very destructive when it comes to love. Great work, I believe everyone can relate to your poem. Love it...........

The poem said it all in two quatrains. I agree with Heather above though. 'love never dies'

We share; Still I will love you still when my heart you cannot fill Autumn leaves, leaves of love Blossoms, fragrant flowers, Pure heart-white Dove Wintry winds...eerie sounds... Clouds drifting, sunless sky Trees as my heart, barren of leaves Summer awaits, love sleeps Shine bright sun! Cloudless sky Awaken! 'Spring' of love Awaken our hearts to blossom Leaves, as our spirits re-birth Blossoms' immortal fragrance Breath of life, my heart to fill 'I will love you, still' for Gloria L. © 1990 Louie Levy

I love this! My favorite line is 'With barbs and thorns and tares, Till peace and hope and faith and trust Withdrew their gentle wares' I would also like to invite you to read and comment my poetry.

I am without words at the moment to express my appreciation for this wonderfully defining piece of art. I believe a child possesses the purest essence of love and at some point it is lost to a self-centered world. And now I see it expounded upon. Pride comes to fill the void where love once resided. And from pride extends a multitude of malcontent. I have amended my previous concept of love thanks to this poem.

I was attracted to this poem because I am still mourning the death of my dear mother who died exactly a week ago. It was not what I thought I would find. Yet it is profoundly penned, swimming in the sea of sadness and rich with realism. Thanks for sharing Adeline.

I really like this one, neatly tied up with a ribbon, but it rings true on every line.My favorite lines are: 'With barbs and thorns and tares, Till peace and hope and faith and trust Withdrew their gentle wares.'
