When Are We really Happy? Poem by Nabakishore Dash

When Are We really Happy?

Rating: 5.0

Peace is the period
when war is absent.
When sadness is absent
happiness is present.

Sadness of impaired vision
for a blind man does not
exist when asleep.
A wounded person
is not wounded in sleep.

Poverty is not experienced
by a poor man when in slumber.
Enmity between foes disappears
in sleep for some hours.

As the day ends we all
want to go to bed to
feel the absence of sadness.
Sleep is, therefore,
the best example
of unadulterated happiness.

When one desires for objects,
mind becomes restless and unhappy.
Efforts are made to achieve
till getting them to feel happy.
As there is no end to our desires
we hardly become happy.
Unadulterated happiness is
therefore present only in sleep.
The Creator has been able
to provide happiness to all being.
We must remain always
grateful to Him.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
