What's Your Case? Poem by Doreenda Nikoi Kotei

What's Your Case?

What are you weeping about?
Have you gone hungry for days?
Or you've been bedridden for years?
Or you're bereaved of a beloved one?
Or you've lost a baby for a fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, nineth and even tenth times?
Dry away your tears, the sun will smile at you again!

What are you miserable about?
That your marriage is not working?
That your parents couldn't afford your school?
That all your colleagues are doing better than you?
That every plan you execute is sure to fail?
That you failed your papers for the 11th,12th,13th,14th and even 15th times?
Hold your heart, the sun will cheer at you again!

What are you terrified of?
That you'll not make it if you should start from scratch?
That you'll embarrass yourself when given that position?
That you're next to die in that annual family sacrifice?
That you'll be poisoned to death when you break out of your limitations?
That you'll be rejected for the 26th,27th,28th,29th and 30th times?
Look up and sing your praises, the sun will rejoice with you soon!
