What Was Supposed To Be Poem by Taushell Davis

What Was Supposed To Be

In 2018, our hearts aligned,
A vow, a promise, love entwined.
We built a home, a sacred space,
Where laughter danced and time gave grace.

A daughter bloomed, so full of light,
Then came our son, strong and bright.
Another girl in 2022,
Three little stars, born out of you.

But lush became longing, sweet turned sore,
The love we held began to war.
What was supposed to lift and stay,
Fell silent, slowly slipped away.

I miss the smiles, the quiet nights,
The way we held our dreams so tight.
Raising our children, side by side,
Before the storm, before the tide.

I didn't leave for lack of care,
But for the love no longer there.
What was, was once so full and free,
But no longer gave what was supposed to be.

Still, in their eyes, I see our past,
The love we shared, how long it lasts.
Though we're apart, the roots run deep,
In every laugh, in every sleep.
