I like your poem, questioning your own thoughts is poetry, others may analyze them, but you write. I have trouble writing poetry sometimes because it just seems like a game of conformity, like the poem has to be written in a certain correct way when that's not true at all.

Poetry is when you've edited your thoughts, created a brilliant sequence of phrases, or merely the commonplace, then presented it because you think it's worth sharing. It isn't the best of the best, just the jist that does the job. Your style is musing over the words and phrases and ideas. So you're used to this style. If ever you wish to adopt the 8,6,8,6 style, then maybe you'll make compromises you don't want. That's your poetic licence, your freedom of speech, your portion, your gift, So feel free to explore.
