What Is Truth Poem by Patrick Fealy

What Is Truth

What is truth? I heard him ask when truth was in his way
standing right in front of him what can just one man say?
Dignify the question that's hardly well conceived?
Rhetoric that questions not will never be believed
Send him off and flog him then?
Beat him half to death?
Satisfy the savagery rife in all the rest?
crown him with some bloody thorns?
Mock him with a reed?
Disbelief and blasphemy is all that you will breed
I am wont to wunder
where would I be now
If I had but followed Him & taken up a vow
following his footsteps on that bloody path
Narrow is the doorway leading to the past
Wide is now the highway everybody's on
leading off in front of us to that great beyond
still I look behind me remembering the time
when I saw Him breath his last upon that cross of mine
