I.
They say women don't need men anymore,
that they can have it all on their own,
feminism claims it is the future,
and that it's contingent on me to know
that everything's just a social construct,
there's no difference that we cannot change,
and they go and destroy any scientist
who has the sense and courage to explain
that millions of years of evolution
imprints on all of our genetic lines,
the differences are not just skin deep,
they leave a large impact on our minds.
Even here amidst the great western world,
where there is much legal equality,
you would think we'd see a half-and-half,
but it doesn't break that evenly.
Women rule in social science and nursing,
men dominate construction and war,
even with money for the girls in the STEM
and endless rants or manhood deplored.
And should a woman become the rare one,
strong enough to make it into combat,
she'll be in the bottom percentile,
unable to match men's muscle mass.
But we're afraid to point out the difference,
though it's been know for millions of years,
we've naturals strength bound to our sex,
and this now seems a fact to be feared?
But what happens to the naïve young woman
basing the whole of their future upon
a career where nature's stacked the deck?
What will happen if we've got it wrong?
II.
We were told that one man and one woman
was outdated, too old, and passé,
that any two souls were entitled to
the chance to go and have their big day,
and while on the individual scale
those couples are of no great concern to me,
I have to say some doubts still exist
when I scale it up to society.
In nations where birth rates have been dropping
I wonder does it really make much sense
to celebrate a form of union that
can not naturally bring about children?
And how much longer until polygamists
declare that now their situation is fine,
society suffers when spouses and few,
there has to be somewhere we draw the line.
What of the concerns when gays have kids,
via surrogates or adoptions,
we pray that they'll grow up to be fine folk,
who would wish suffering on little ones?
But then I remember reading the stats
of children raised by single parents,
more drop-outs and poverty is bad enough,
crime and mental illness…higher percents.
Makes me wonder if there's things we can't see
double male or double female, who knows?
Kids need masculine and feminine,
and I fear there's hard paths this might go.
Will there be problems we do not expect?
I guess we will all now before long,
hate to think of children paying the price,
what will happen if we've got it wrong?
III.
Some claim that your sex is all in your head,
that you can change it at any old time,
gender is not bound by our biology,
it's nothing more than a sure state-of-mind,
and so we see them, dressing up all weird,
demanding that we go along with their claims,
trying to say this will make it all better,
but nothing ever seems to ease their pain.
And given that forty percent of such folk
will eventually attempt suicide,
does it make that much sense to enable them,
or are we just setting them up to die?
And given how often it fades away
is it wise to encourage a change,
to watch someone mutilate themselves
when there's a good chance it's a passing phase?
Plus messing with hormones is a big risk,
what know we of the long term effects?
And when they're given to confused minors
who the hell knows what will happen next?
How can we even let our children decide
to forever bind themselves to this fate,
children are stupid, their minds not yet formed,
different people at six and at eight.
With no experience of the real world,
no understanding of what is to come,
to throw in hormones and harsh surgery
To such a mercurial mind sure is dumb.
What happens if the ‘girl' at sixteen
grows out of it and sees that ‘she's' a man?
Can you undo the hormones, bring back his parts,
or to that confused state is he damned?
It all seems to be a dumpster fire,
obstinance when the truth is too strong,
and you nobody even wants to ask
what will happen if we've got it wrong?
Some day soon, I fear, they'll wish they'd asked.
