What else can I make in the engineering lab if I get back to work
-Gayathri B. Seetharam
If it is a postulate that I am a darned good engineer
Or a prima facie statement that I am a good researcher
These must turn into theorems which have to be proven
With my academic record plus work references;
If I were to make a compound with 1 mole of Sulphur and I mole of Ethane and 1 mole of Xanthic acid
Would it result in a mole of SulphurEthylXanthate or an unknown compound SEX
And how would I identify the resulting product
Apart from a pH meter to prove if it is an acid or a base;
It could be an inorganic salt or an organic ester
And I suggest that the solubility test be checked out
For if it is an organic compound or an inorganic compound
Or I have the perfect solution;
It is the trial and error method but I have zeroed it to a known compound
And therefore, I could take a 1 ml of the resulting product of liquid or dissolve it in 2 ml of water
OR 2 ml of chloroform in a sample vial and shake it vigorously on a vortex mixer
And pour the required amount in a cuvette and match readings at a certain wavelength on the UV Spectrophotometer;
If it is a magical compound which is unknown under lab conditions,1 mole of SEX,
Then we would need a calibration curve and this would mean
Different concentrations of Sulphur Ethyl Xanthate or SEX
Which would mean proportionally changing the reactant concentrations.
