We've Come A Long Way Poem by DONALD SCHUSTER

We've Come A Long Way

I've known you way too long, since before my flower bloomed
When I was just a seed my imagination rooted
by nature's call,
Years have passed since you've tried to hold my hand
As I've broken free,
I've conquered some, Lost some
I've found a life full, while embracing emptiness
Love was found, love was lost
I've seen wonderous things through the lens of little things
The glow of a daughter's eyes, a wind finding a wife's smile
Tears mixed with laughter like the tide rolling onto the beach,
And along the way Joy always outweighed your eternal sway,
Every time you've come to visit, you were like an unwanted guest,
When it came time to fight, I fought the good fight
By battling you away,
Yet you found my friends and the ones I loved,
They were locked too close to your hands and can now only be touched by memory,
You've Left a boneyard full of the brave, the ordinary, the good, the others,
Yes, we've come a long way
Fate should not be left to chance for your cold embrace nor
blessed or knighted,
Should we meet again whenever that is, I only want to kiss today
Knowing somewhere there will always be light.
