We may stand in awe
At the immensity of the Universe
Trillions of galaxies beyond ours
The light from the farthest away
Traveling 186,000 miles a second
Taking 13 billion years to reach our most powerful telescopes
And still, over 90% more beyond our ability to detect
We may marvel at the lowly neutrino
Who crosses space to pass right through our hand
Even skipping through the space in atoms that comprise us
And on it goes all the way through the Earth and out the other side
Unimpeded on its long journey
From supernova to somewhere very far away
But when we stand beside a blooming plant in someone's garden
A wild flower, a weed
A finely veined leaf from a great or infant tree
A fern, some mold
Or a floating-on-air dandelion seed
We come face to face with God
We may then see
As in a mirror
Our own magnificence
A creation no less
Just as deep
90% beyond our reach
We might also see the unseeable truth
That we are the vast Universe of galaxies
We are the only recently detected space wave
The lonely traveler neutrino
And the space through which it is traveling
Unimpeded to who knows where
Those peculiar lavender/blue flowers
The ones that catch our attention
On a lovely Saturday afternoon walk
Remind us of who we may very well be
Before and after all
Might we be the Universe becoming aware of itself?
We do not just see location, size and shape
We do not just notice movement, sound, fragrance and color
We see beauty
We are moved to tears
We have insights about the experience that affect the course of the rest of our lives
And the future changes course
Occasionally, we stand there
In the middle of nothing
And speak something into existence
A new context
A new world within which
Everything past present and future
Transforms
We are emerging from darkness to the light
From Gu darkness to Ru light
Wow! one might say
From darkness to light
Neither better, both necessary
Our Sikh friends exclaim, Wahe Guru!
Wow! From darkness to light!
We may want to let that sink in
Standing in awe
Letting in the beauty
The scale of it all
The vast and the very small
This miracle of limitless intelligence
Our creative potential
All those galaxies
Wayward waves and particles
The flora and the fauna with us here on Earth
You and me
And who we truly are
Oh, dear friend, Wow!
Isn't this amazing?
Walk with me side by side on the path
From darkness to light
Our life's journey
Wahe Guru!
