We Don't Know Ourselves Poem by Ruta Mohapatra

We Don't Know Ourselves

Rating: 5.0

Have you ever helplessly
Stood and cried
While a life
Was slipping away?

Nothing matters then
No wealth, no health
No God, no future
No past, no present

The moment contains
Only you and the dying
And the intense desire
To hold back that slipping life

There are few lucky ones
Who are spared such pain
And yet we survive
We absorb it and live
