Dawn sky, watery blue streaked red and gold,
by the hand of God.
Mountain ranges like humpbacked somnolent dinosaurs
Left behind from a long forgotten age.
Leafless hawthorns standing naked in the wind,
branches raised in supplication to the morning sky,
await the sap of spring
The sun, gold clad, eastern ambassador.
Whose heat spreads like a soothing balm.
Breathing life and warmth into frost bitten fields.
Lake mist hovers in ghostly plumes, above Loch Conn,
Welcome cover for the hungry birds
Whose song is the orchestral soundtrack
to God's own watercolour dawn
Nice poem Noreen. It reminds me of my youth, when I used to get up very early to go fishing with my mates, on the banks of a local pond - sadly gone now.
You've incredibly painted the dawn sky and the hovering mist over the Lake Loch Conn. Thanks for the note. Promised to myself that from tomorrow, shall again resume my dawn walks.
you make me see and regret... for the beauty of dawn and missing it oftner than not.10/10.
The idea of rising early to encounter the pure beauty of the day is a worthy goal. William Stafford said, if you want to feel free, wake up at 4 am. You will not be oppressed. A collateral idea but still one emphasizing facing light in its earliest manifestation. I identify with the branches which AWAIT THE SAP OF SPRING. In my living memory I have not felt such gratitude for the arrival of Spring 2014. In fact, it's the END OF WINTER that I really, truly needed. But now I can dispel those impatient memories and revel in GOD'S OWN WATERCOLOUR DAWN - for which I thank you! !
Welcome cover for the hungry birds Whose song is the orchestral soundtrack to God's own watercolour dawn , , beautifully written,
nice piece of poetry there... you mention the name.... but really...be it winder-mere, coniston, buttermeare or dervent.... the poem celebrates and rings everywhere. for divinity is one and for us mortals the observing eye that we depend on a unity too. charged and fervent lines. and you have given it a really travel by feel.... i for one was sitting right there beside you, ya on the 'coach' from bowness to ambleside... lovely :) liked
