Washing Up Poem by Patricia Denise Newman

Washing Up

It had been a grand party for sure
Family and friends had gathered once more
Swapping their stories, their failure and glories
of all that had gone on before

The food and the wine and the beer
had been supped with great gusto and cheer
How they'd all laughed remembering past
days of childhood apprehensions and fear

Now the last guest had finally gone home
and she stands with her hands in the foam
as she washes away the remains of the day
setting her mind free to roam

Looking back over years of her life
as a daughter, mother and wife
recalling past dreams, turned to dust it now seems
midst the hope with the struggles and strife

She looks back on a happier time
as she washes away grease and grime
and she smiles a small smile, as she thinks for a while
Now is my time, contentment is mine.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I'm sure everyone has had moments like this when the mind is allowed to wander remembering highs and lows in life whilst doing a mundane chore.
