Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
...
You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may tread me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.
...
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
...
Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.
...
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
...
It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
By the name of ANNABEL LEE;
...
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
...
The free bird leaps
on the back of the wind
and floats downstream
till the current ends

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too:

Writing a poem is not about bringing some words together to create some charming sentences. It's so much deeper than that. Writing poetry is a bridge that allows people to express their feelings and make others live every single word they read. Poetry is to educate people, to lead them away from hate to love, from violence to mercy and pity. Writing poetry is to help this community better understand life and live it more passionately. PoemHunter.com contains an enormous number of famous poems from all over the world, by both classical and modern poets. You can read as many as you want, and also submit your own poems to share your writings with all our poets, members, and visitors.

FAIR is my Love and cruel as she 's fair;
Her brow-shades frown, although her eyes are sunny.
Her smiles are lightning, though her pride despair,
And her disdains are gall, her favours honey:
A modest maid, deck'd with a blush of honour,
Whose feet do tread green paths of youth and love;
The wonder of all eyes that look upon her,
Sacred on earth, design'd a Saint above.
Chastity and Beauty, which were deadly foes,
Live reconciled friends within her brow;
And had she Pity to conjoin with those,
Then who had heard the plaints I utter now?
For had she not been fair, and thus unkind,
My Muse had slept, and none had known my mind.
II
My spotless love hovers with purest wings,
About the temple of the proudest frame,
Where blaze those lights, fairest of earthly things,
Which clear our clouded world with brightest flame.
My ambitious thoughts, confined in her face,
Affect no honour but what she can give;
My hopes do rest in limits of her grace;
I weigh no comfort unless she relieve.
For she, that can my heart imparadise,
Holds in her fairest hand what dearest is;
My Fortune's wheel 's the circle of her eyes,
Whose rolling grace deign once a turn of bliss.
All my life's sweet consists in her alone;
...
And then the day came,
when the risk
to remain tight
in a bud
was more painful
than the risk
it took
to Blossom.

I'm driving my car down a road.
A road, I've driven so many times in the past
But today I'm seeing an aspect
That I've never noticed.
As the sun is flickering through the trees
As I pass by, the seconds ticking,
Houses, people and things.
I'm daydreaming thinking that my car is like life
Traveling through time.
I see everything passing me by.

Turmoil taunts and tries me
Always standing just outside… free.
Waiting predatorily
To torment, abuse and torture me.

I can easily understand that given the here
and now someone would be choosing
To go on stellar voyages and thinking in light years away,

What carries fee carry lawfulness
which carries free devotedness
The time to have and time to elapse
Has such a notoriety as broad day light

This world is full of desires
The desire to be filthy rich
The desire to have a luxury castle
Especially in a posh area

Beneath the noise of every day, the rise and fall of breath, there is a quiet light in us, a flame that never learns to fade.
Its older than our first sorrow, younger than our next heartbeat, its in each human being. As surely as the tide knows the moon. When our world feels scattered, when we forget our names in the storm. this light shines like a lighthouse on the ocean, it has a voice, you are not alone. If we listen we find connection with each other in radiance, that sacred thread woven through our very souls. Offer love, every heart we meet is the home of the same enduring light.

What are the next burning question
Because everyone wants to know a more of you
Or a more of me
Whoever you are just come to me
...
The self, a wanderer in the forest of forms,
has lost the map to its own citadel.
It is a current, not a thing,
an echo of a Name before time.

What Light is this, illumining all that is—
What secret flame stirs in the heart's abyss?
It outshines dawn, outshines the twilight hue,
And trims creation's robe with radiance new.

I am the breath within the timeless void,
the cradle unbroken, before eternity awoke,
beyond the heartbeat of worlds that rise and fall.

I speak:
A duality rises—
light and shadow,
ancient forces circling
...
A duality encircles me—
light and shadow—
each a silent envoy
from realms beyond sight.

I dwell
In the absence
You left behind
...
If you die before me
I would jump down into your grave
and hug you so innocently
that angels will become jealous.

Beautiful is the 'thank you'
Wrapped with gratitude,
Offered to peace prone people
Who offer what is real-themselves

Indoors by technology, outdoors by speedy transport
I travel the world
Today in Japan, tomorrow in Rome,
Next day by an ancient civilization or in Hawaii or Coast Ivory,
...
The low lands call
I am tempted to answer
They are offering me a free dwelling
Without having to conquer

Sun Of The Nation; a rare gift of Providence.
Once, entangled in the web of racist succubus;
Unruffled he declares before High Justice:

Love and lust are poles apart.
Lust is chaos, love is art.

This is not "dinner music." This is a power structure.

"Come, pretty birds, present your lays,

Ye wood-nymphs, let your voices be

If you had the choice of two women to wed,
(Though of course the idea is quite absurd)
And the first from her heels to her dainty head
Was charming in every sense of the word:

A little while, a little while,
The weary task is put away,
And I can sing and I can smile,
Alike, while I have holiday.
