Vincent Van Gogh 81- End Of A Relationship Poem by Geeta Radhakrishna Menon

Vincent Van Gogh 81- End Of A Relationship

Rating: 5.0

In life, food plays a vital role.
When there is no food at home
Or no money to buy any food,
When you are hungry, starved,
Your mental state, emotional balance
Plunges into a state of utter despair.
Vincent experienced disconsolateness
As his debts increased and he felt miserable.

Theo was sending fifty francs, three times a month,
For Vincent and Christine, it was not enough for a month.
Christine started to become grumpy and irritable.
Vincent spent much money on models who posed for him.
He began borrowing money from everyone that included
The landlord, the grocer, the shoemaker, the baker etc.
A stage came when Vincent had no money or food at all.
How could he provide for Christine and her children?

Christine went back to her mother's place.
And once again, picked up her old, dirty habits.
After a few days, when Vincent met Christine.
He found her smoking her cigar and drinking gin.
She was in the company of strange men and women.
The nine days in her mother's house was enough
To revert and convert her back into her old careless self.
She was drowning in toxic environment and bad company.

Vincent tried his very best to coax and persuade Christine
To leave this degrading way of a wayward life.
He was ready to accept her as his wife, on a condition
That she would not go back to her past errors -
A profession of prostitution or to her mother's house
Who had taught and pushed her into the streets.
In spite of her lack of interest in books or art,
Vincent was ready to accept her, if only she modified herself.
.
When life becomes a drudgery, you begin to question
The very fundamentals and meaning of life.
The circumstances force you to take new decisions!
Vincent decided to leave The Hague and Christine for good.
He once again, longed for the comfortable shelter of his parents.
Christine holding her two children came to the station
To bid a final goodbye to Vincent. They all remained silent.
As the train sped away, the woman and the children became
Shadows of a dark past, never to be seen or remembered again.

In the face of food and money, his debts increased and he lost his peace of mind and felt miserable. Moreover, the waywardness of Christine forced Vincent to leave the place.

Very interesting poem. Difficulties can lure us to negative tendencies if we are not strong enough.

Real testing time in life, no matter who you are and what you do, it comes at least once in a lifetime to test our nerves and test our patience. Nice poem with great emotional content. Full Stars Geetaji.
