Vietnam Memorial Poem by Thomas Thompson

Vietnam Memorial

Vietnam Memorial today

I feel I'm standing in a mind field of Ghosts
Explosions no matter where I step
Even though treading lightly

In respect for those who died in that god forsaken land
Where both sides defended their right to live
In a war driven by politics

The feather of my existence
In stark contrast to the grim reality
Of life never lived as both sides struggled to survive each day

Tormented by dreams of death
As anguished screams echo in my head
From a war that should never have been

Tommy
