Golden corn, that was ripe, From which, they would have their feast. Tantalizing ears of gold Laying out row upon row Though as a river when the wind blowed. Very fine imagination bringing us to a great truth. tony

I looked back at the comments and wonder does this really deserve to be poem of the day twice in less than a year. I enjoyed it this time around as much as the first but there are hundreds of poems just as worthy for an airing. However congrats for the second time on being chosen.

I cannot help but see this as a cartoon animation. The depiction of reality simplified for the child, crows that talk and farmers, probably in overalls, hiding among the crop just to eliminate the threat of those two intelligent, hungry gents of the air. Truth is, corn protects its seed quite well from birds behind a rather tough and hardy husk. Crows are more likely to denude a field when it is freshly seeded. Not to say that I don't enjoy diversions of a tale told simply sometimes.

The battle of man over nature and man doesn't always win but then neither does nature. A poem of depth which makes the reader think always a plus in poem, I like it. Deserves Poem of the Day 10+++
