Rating: 4.7

Were I allowed a single word each day
Perhaps I'd value it. I'd give it thought
And speak it slowly, as a child is taught
To do. And then, who knows, each word might say

Verbosity so very succinctly summed up! A great poem, illustrating a tendency many of us poets have. A skillful poet does not need many words, I think. Just posted a 12 line poem (not exactly a sonnet) and felt quite pleased that I resisted from turning it into a 12 stanza poem (as I often do.) Gonna go look up more of your poems...

Misuse of any thing is bad. Same is the case with words. They ought to be used with care and after measuring its gravity and impact on others. Thanks & Congrats.

mary, i checked and see you haven't posted for more than four years. if you read this, however, i hereby praise you for this is excellent sonnet! i relate to the struggle you skillfully express here and am interested now in checking out your other poems. a picky kind of note—the word badinage sticks out for me in this context. had you ever considered another in its place? -gk

Yes, Only when one starts playing with words, one realizes how valuable they are. Poets particularly have the skill to do this. Whatever miracle one performs with words, no one can own them. Enjoyed the thought provoking poem very much. Congrats for the precious positioning. Thanks for sharing. X

The sonnet form used so well to argue the case against 'Verbosity'. We all work to slim and trim our words.
