Vedas 38 -Kathopanishad - Part 2 A - Yama Agrees To Teach Nachiketaa

Rating: 5.0

Yama, tested the lad with many temptations,
Nachiketaa, refused them all,
The lad stood his ground firmly.
He did not budge,
Even an inch, from his goal.

Nachiketaa reasoned:
"O Ruler of Death! I have come from a land of mortals!
Should I, again, ask for something transient and impermanent?
Sir, I seek the immortal realm,
I desire, only that which is eternal! "

Yama answered:
" Dear boy, thou art strong and persistent.
I see thee, as a sincere seeker of Truth.
I offered thee, every object of pleasure and wealth,
That normally tempts and deludes men, but
Thou hast rejected them all.

" Come! My dear boy!
Thou hast proved thy sincerity and worthiness.
Thou truly deserve to be my pupil.
I grant thee the third boon of your desire.
Let me now, instruct thee, on the hidden secrets of Death.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This is an ancient, famed story of a young boy named Nachiketaa and Yama - the God of Death, and their profound dialogue, full of learning and wisdom, that marks the essential content of Kathopanishad.
The dialogue is long and spreads over six chapters containing 119 verses.
This is, perhaps, the most interesting dialogue that I have ever read.I am attempting to summarise and make it as concise as possible
Each Upanishad should be read from the beginning and in order of the series, otherwise, the meaning will be lost. It would be difficult to comprehend the philosophy of the Upanishad.

The poem summarising Kathyopanishad is appreciable. The voracity of Nachikethus for Brahmah Vidya is brought to light with a view to educate the society. Good. Thamasoma Jyothirgamaya

Following Nachiketaa's strongly courageous and persistent stance, Yama was convinced about him as a bona fide seeker who wanted him (Yama) as a perfect Guru for imparting this extremely secret knowledge which is not accessible even by gods. Nicely put up and explained. Great work. Thanks, Geeta ji. as a sincere seeker of Truth. proved..... sincerity and worthiness.... to be my pupil
