Ve Day - 80 Years Anniversary Poem by David Boyce

Ve Day - 80 Years Anniversary

So many men and women fought at war,
Most willing and unafraid,
Many in foreign countries,
With their young lives they paid.

For them we all are grateful,
Because of their ultimate sacrifice back then,
They fought for our freedom,
But unable to see their loved ones again.

On the 80th Anniversary,
Of VE Day today,
We all stand together,
For a minutes silence we can pray.

Our armed forces fought bravely,
On the land, in the air and seas,
Many thousands killed in battles,
And others with severe injuries.

Many homes and lives were ruined,
In homeland bombing raids,
Also many civilians doing their duties,
With their lives they also paid.

For all of our veterans of war,
We salute you all in memory,
And those fallen in battle home and abroad,
We can honour and pray to thee.
